تتعلق هذه الدراسة بقضية هامة ألا وهى (التجديد) فى فهم الدين.. وحول (التجديد) دارت العديد من المناقشات وصدرت الكثير من المؤلفات، ولكن الدراسة التى يحتويها هذا الكتاب تنفرد بشكلها وتناولها.. حيث بدأت من أول نقطة وهى مفهوم الدين وبنيت غرضها فى إرتباطه بالتحديد فى الدين الإسلامى.. ثم تلاها حديث فى التجديد الدينى وماهيته وأهميته ولاصفة الشرعية له، ويستكمل المؤلف الدكتور (محمد السيد الدسوقى) الحديث بذكره لدعائم التجديد الدينى وشروطه ودعائمه ثم مجالاته التى تشمل كافة الأوجه والجوانب. يتطرق بعد ذلك إلى ضوابط هذا التجديد وآثاره، وتاريخه منذ عصر الصحابة رضى الله عنهم وحتى الآب والعقبات التى تعترض طريق التجديد أخيراً يتحدث المؤلف عن التجديد بين النظرية و التطبيق مطمعاً ببعض المقترحات .. وإنتهى بخاتمة من النتائج والتوصيات إنها دراسة لاتشترط المتخصص قارئاً لها ولاتتبع أسلوباً معقداً.. فهى تأخذ بعقل القارئ خطوة بخطوة تدور به على جوانب ومفاهيم عديدة وتتوقف لتلقى إليه بمزيد من الشرح فى بعض المحطات حتى تكتمل الرؤية ويتم البناء ويتضح فكر تجديد الدين فى الإسلام.
