هذا الكتاب من المؤلفات النادرة عن إشكال التنظير في الترجمة، وهو تنظيرٌ استوحاه المؤلف من تجربته العملية في الترجمة. يضم الكتاب فصولاً أربعة تنطلق من تعريف الترجمة، إلى علاقتها بالبيداغوجيا، فالخوض في مسألة "الاعتراض الاستباقي": هل يمكن ترجمة الأدب؟ هل يمكن ترجمة الشعر أم إنه جنس تتعذر ترجمته؟...وأخيراً الإشكال في ترجمة التضمين (connotation) والسعي إلى مفهمه هذا الإشكال.
ويعتمد الكتاب على مرجعيات متنوعة ومتكاملة في الفلسفة والعلوم الإنسانية والسياسية التي تحيل على ثقافات وتقاليد وطنية يستدعي تأويلها وترجمة دلالاتها جهداً كبيراً. ولهذا يقوم الخطاب الترجمي الذي يتبناه لادميرال على ثالوث يتكامل معرفياً ويرسم تراتبيةً تعطي الأولوية للفلسفة وتزكي تبعية اللسانيات وعلم النفس لها.
