يضم هذا الكتاب فعاليات المؤتمر الاول للباحثين الشباب الذى ينظمة قسم السياسة والاقتصاد بمعهد البحوث والدراسات الافريقية تحت عنوان افريقيا بين التحول الديمقراطى والتكيف الهيكلى وقد تم اختيار هذا الموضوع بسبب تصاعد الجدل حول جدوى عمليات الاصلاح السياسي والاقتصادى فى القارة الافريقية خاصة بعد انتهاء الحرب الباردة حيث طالب البعض بالتحول الديمقراطى والاقتصادى واكد هؤلاء ان التعثر فى الاخفاق الذى واجه بعض التجارب الافريقية لا يعود الاساس الى عدم نلائمة المخططات النظرية بقدر ما يرجع الى اخطاء التطبيق من جانب الدول الافريقية ذاتها على حين يرى فريق تان ان التحولات الديمقراطية برامج التكيف الهيكلى لم تضف كثيرا الى الاستقرار السياسى والتنمية فى افريقيا بل انها ادت الى نتائج عكسية فى حالات كثيرة .
