يكاد العمل الإسلامي في العراق يترابط بشكل كلي وفاعل مع تاريخ دولة العراق الحديث.. حتى يبدو أنه يشكل المحور الفاعل في بنية أزمة هذه الدولة وبالأخص على أطراف المسافة الزمنية الممتدة بين لحظة تأسيسها ولحظتها الحالية، والعقد الذي يتوسط هاتين اللحظتين تقريباً، فما بين هاتين اللحظتين يمتد زمن من الصيرورة اللامتشابهة من الفعل الثوري والإنكفاء المتعدد في الأنماط والحالات والفرص المضيعة والأزمات (المزمنة) والتفصيلية والتي يصنف إهمالها ضمن مقولات (الحساسية) في التعاطي مع تاريخ العمل الإسلامي وحاضره.. وبالتالي فإن (القراءة المطلوبة) تخضع دائماً إلى منهج (التأجيل) تحت دعاوى (المصلحة العامة) وغالباً ما تخفي هذه الدعاوى ورائها (المصلحة الخاصة).. لذا يشكل هذا الكتاب للعمل الإسلامي خلال نصف القرن الماضي قراءة نقدية لمسيرته بكل مشاكلها ومنعطفاتها وأزماتها و(صراعاتها الداخلية)، و(محطات الذورة) فيها التي شكلت فصوله الأساسية.. وهي فصول عالجت العقد (الخمسيني) التأسيسي لهذا العمل، ومشروع الصدر الأول الفكري -التغييري- السياسي ومواجهته للأنظمة، ليقف فيما بعد على إنفجار الإنتفاضة (1991)، وقيادة مرجعية الخوئي لها ثم ظاهرة الشهيد الصدر الثاني كظاهرة تتويجية لهذا العمل.. وقبل ذلك فإنه يعالج العمل الحزبي-الحركي في العراق بكل أطره وأسمائه الكبيرة والصغيرة بشكل منفصل، وهذا الفصل بين العمل الحركي وبين العمل المرجعي يبقى نسبياً بحكم الترابط والتداخل والتأثير المتبادل سلباً أو إيجاباً بين دور المرجع وبين دور الحزب اللذين شكلاً مصدري العمل الإسلامي في العراق والذي تراكم ليشكل ظاهرة بارزة في واقع العراق السياسي الآن..إلا أنها ظاهرة (مشلولة) عن التغيير الحاسم لأزمة العراق.. وتكرس التلازم والترابط بينها وبين العمل الإسلامي فيه من جديد. وبقدر ما يحاول هذا الكتاب أن يعيد قراءة العمل خلال نصف قرن قراءة (نقدية) ويسجل التاريخ تسجيلاً (غير أحادي).. فإنه يسعى (بتواضع) إلى استشراف آفاقه ومستقبله.
