للحركة الإسلامية في العراق دور تاريخي في حركة الفكر العربي الإسلامي. وربما انفردت، في بعض الأحيان، بما أنجزته من إسهامات فكرية على مستوى مناقشة الأفكار العالمية الشيوعية والرأسمالية. يُذكر منها على سبيل المثال ما أنتجه المرجع محمد باقر الصدر من كتب في الفلسفة والاقتصاد والاستقراء.
وقد استوعبت هذه الإسهامات الفكر الحركي-التنظيمي أيضاً في وقت مبكر. مقارنة ببعض الحركات الإسلامية الناهضة. من هنا تبرز الضرورة لقراءة فكر هذه الحركة وتجربتها فكان هذا الكتاب الذي هو السابع في سلسلة "دراسات" والذي يدور حول الحركة الإسلامية في العراق، عبر دراسة الجزء أو النموذج الحركي الذي يستوفي أو يستبطن المكونات الحركية من نظرية وخطاب فكري وثقافي ودور ومساحة.
هذا وإن الوقوف في سياق هذا البحث ليس على الجانب الفكري الحركي في النظرية والمنهج والخطاب، أو الصورة التاريخية وأسبابها وأجوائها فحسب، إنما على الراهن بما يتضمن من علاقات داخلية في كيان الحزب ومن علاقات مع الحركات الإسلامية الأخرى في العراق ومع الحركات الإسلامية في العالمين العربي والإسلامي، والجمهورية الإسلامية في إيران وبعض الدول الإسلامية الأخرى، إضافة إلى مفردات مسيرته من الداخل والخارج.
وقد اقتضت منهجية هذا البحث شمولية رصدت إشكالات التجربة، ومنعطفات المسيرة ودراسة للأداء السياسي والحركي للحزب، دون إغفال التحليل التاريخي أو الفكري للتصوف المتاحة. ولذا فقد تجاوزت أدوات هذه المنهجية البحثية النص الدعوتي أو النص الآخر ازاء حزب الدعوة الإسلامية إلى استنطاق بعض الرموز الحزبية لما قد يمثل إشكالاً في دقة المعلومات، أو إيضاحاً لبعض الملابسات، أو تحقيقاً لبعض الروايات التي قد تتعدد ازاء موضوعة واحدة، لتعدد مصادرها، فعملية الاستنطاق هذه تبقى ضرورية في الوصول إلى الصورة الكاملة والدقيقة للبحث.
