يحاول الدكتور زيعور دراسة عدم التوازن بين الذات العربية وجعلها، أو الخلل في صحتها الانفعالية الذي يمثل في عدم الشعور بالرضى عن الذات إزاء نفسها، وعن الذات في المجتمع، وعن المجتمع أمام "الحضارة العالمية"، كأن إنساننا اليوم مطروح في حقل هو في موقف العدو له: لا ينال الفرد في مجتمعه قيمة، ولا يأخذ إشباعاً لحاجياته الحياتية ومستوياتها، ولا لمشاعره بالأمن ثم الثقة بالمستقبل، ولا لتحقيق ذاته. والباحث يرى بأن توفير تلك الصحة، التي هي توازن قطاعات الأنا ثم بين الأنا وحقلها المنقح على العالم، يحرر الطاقات الإبداعية، ويصوغ النظرة الأصيلة للرد على مجابهات العصر. من أجل البناء الاثنين، الصحة الانفعالية في الرد والاستقرار والمعقلن في المجتمع، وكان عمله في دراسته هذه نظرات تحليلية للسلوك، الفكر الراهن من جهة، وعلى جذوره المتغذية بالتراث، وعلى واقع المجتمع من جهة أخرى.
لهذا تتراكم نداءات العلاج الإنهاضي المعروفة (في اللغة، والقوانين، وتوفير العمل والأداة والعقلنة...) مع الدعوات للتنمية الشاملة ولإيجاد صيغة تصون بها الذات كرامتها وتتحرر، هي ومجتمعها، من فكين هما: الواقع القاسي والمثل الأعلى الصعب المنال، الهو والأنا الأعلى القمعي. شدد الباحث على قيمة العوامل الثقافية والأخلاقية والوجدانية التي تحافظ على الدينامية للذات، وتقدر على تقديم العلاج إلى جانب ما يقدمه أيضاً العقلي والعملي. فالشخصية العربية مصابة بترجرج، وقلق، وتخلخل في القيم، وانجراح في مشاعر الأمن والانتماء. يلاحظ اضطرابها بلا صعوبة: هناك الوعي بالتخلف، وبتسلط الأقوياء القواصر، وبفشل التجارب الانهاضية. أما أسباب عدم استقرارها، ونقص توافقها، فتكمن في: التقلبات السريعة للحوادث، والتغير الهائل في كل مجال في العالم، والمخاوف على المستقبل، وضغوط السلطة والأنا اعلى والعالم القوي، والازدواجيات بين المبادئ والواقع، والإنشاطارات في السلوك، والانفاصامات في الثقافة والحضارة والقيم، وتعدد الافكاريات بل وتناقضها داخل القطر الواحد. كما أن لحياة المدينة، ولتأثير الثقافة غير العربية، وتجريح الوعي والحاملات التاريخية، سبباً في تغلغل تلك الذات.
