في مجال علم النفس، يُعرف الذكاء بأنه قدرة العقل التي تحددها قدرته على إستيعاب المعلومات أو الفهم، وإستخدامها في مواقف جديدة.
إنها هذه القدرة العامة للعقل التي يمتلكها كل شخص، والتي تحدد مدى كفاءة كل منا في التعامل مع المواقف التي تنشأ، وكيف نستفيد عقلياً من خبراتنا وتجاربنا، تتنوع هذه القدرة العقلية من شخص إلى آخر، وهي ما يتم قياسه من خلال إختبارات الذكاء (إختبارات حاصل الذكاء).
على مدى من 25 إلى 30 عاماً مضت، انتشرت إختبارات حاصل الذكاء "Intelligence"، وانتشر إستخدامها في الصناعة والتجارة، نظراً لحاجة أصحاب الأعمال للتأكد من أنهم يضعون الشخص المناسب في المكان المناسب من البداية.
تقوم إختبارات حاصل الذكاء على إفتراض أن هؤلاء الخاضعين للإختبار ليس لديهم أي معرفة بطريقة حساب الدرجات نفسها، وأنهم لا يعلمون إلا القليل حول أساليب الأسئلة الخاصة بتلك الإختبارات، وبعمليات التفكير المطلوبة لحلها، وبالتالي، يجرى الأمر منطقياً كالتالي: إذا ما تعلمت شيئاً حول هذا النوع من الإختبار، وتعلمت كيف تدرك الفرق بين الأنواع الأسئلة المختلفة، فإنك تستطيع أن تحسن أداءك في الإختبارات الفعلية، مثل هذا التحسن في الأداء، مهما كان كثيراً أو قليلاً، قد يكون كافياً ليدفع بمرشج ما إلى السلم الوظيفي بإحدى الشركات.
يحتوى هذا الكتاب على إختبارات عديدة لكي تقوم بتجربة كل منها، والتي تحتوي على أنواع وأنماط الأسئلة التي غالباً ما تقابلها في إختبارات حاصل الذكاء الحقيقية، وبما أنها قد وضعت وجُمعت خصيصاً من أجل هذا الكتاب، فإن الإختبارات غير مقَيَّمة، ومع ذلك تضمن الكتاب مرشداً تقريبياً للأداء، والذي يجب أن يمكنك من تحديد مواطن قوتك ونقاط ضعفك، هناك حد زمني لكل الإختبارات لا يجب تجاوزه، وإلا فلن تكون الدرجة التي أحرزتها سارية.
في الجزء الأخير من هذا الكتاب، هناك إختبار حاصل ذكاء كامل مكون من 30 سؤالاً، والذي يضم العديد من فروع المعرفة المختلفة التي اشتملت عليها الإختبارات المفردة السابقة.
