الإدارة بالتجوال … مصطلح بدأ يزحف إلى الفكر الإداري مع تضخم حجم الشركات، وانتشار فروع المشروعات، وتعدد أنشطتها، وتباعد المسافات الجغرافية بينها واتساع نطاق نشاطها وامتداده على مستوى دول العالم وقاراته، وتزايد اعتمادية متخذ القرار الإداري على التقارير المكتبية، والتي كثيرًا ما تخفي بيانات، وتتحيز في إعطاء المعلومات، والتي تتدخل فيها عوامل ظرفية ومكانية، تجعل من التقارير أداة مشوهة ومشوشة، وغير دقيقة في تحقيق الاتصال. ورغم أن هناك جهود غير عادية تبذل لاختصار وتقليل المستويات الإدارية التي تتعامل مع التقارير، إلا أن التحيز الشخصي لازال قائمًا، وقد حاولت تكنولوجيا الاتصال حل المشكلة من خلال التواجد في موقع الأحداث وإجراء الاتصالات الفورية عبر أجهزة الاتصال المتقدمة .. تلك الأجهزة التي أعطت إحساسًا خادعًا بالتواجد والحضور .. لمجرد أن هناك رؤية لمواقع الإنتاج ومواقع العمل .. إلا أنه ثبت بالدليل القاطع أنها ليست كافية، بل كثيراً ما استخدمت في التضليل وإظهار الموقف على غير ما هو عليه بالفعل .. بل وبقدر كبير من الخداع والتغطية، حتى أن التكنولوجيا أصبحت تبرمج على تزييف الواقع، وإظهاره بالشكل الذي يرغب أن يكون عليه، وليس كما هو قائم فعلاً في الواقع الفعلي .. وقد أدى التقدم التكنولوجي نقلاً إلى التوسع في استخدام الإدارة المكتبية، وإلى زيادة عدد ساعات جلوس المدير في المكتب. وقد شجع هذا التقدم اتجاهًا في الفكر الإداري تبنته المدارس الفكرية الغربية
