إن طريقة التدريس التي يتبعها المدرس تعتبر من أهم جوانب العملية التعليمية بل هي المشكلة الرئيسة في مضمون العمل بمهنة التدريس.
ولما كان الهدف من عملية تدريس مادة الجغرافية على المستوى المدرسي هو تطوير القدرات العقلية وإيقاظ حب الإستطلاع الجغرافي عند الطلاب، فإن المتعلم أحياناً يجد صعوبة في دراسة مادة الجغرافية وغالباً ما يرجع ذلك للأساليب التي اتبعت في تدريس هذه المادة وليس إلى طبيعة المادة بحد ذاتها.
لذا، فإن الغاية من هذا البحث هي تزويد مدرسي الجغرافية بأساليب متعددة وطرق تدريس مختلفة تمكنهم من إستعمالها لإغناء تدريسهم وجعله أكثر فاعلية في التأثير على طلابهم وتحقيق الأهداف الأساسية التي يرجى تحقيقها من وراء تدريس مادة الجغرافية على المستوى المدرسي.
اشتمل موضوع البحث على ثلاثة فصول: تناول الفصل الأول الأسس وأساليب التدريس الجيد وخصائص المدرس الجيد بالإضافة إلى أهمية الجغرافية وقيمتها التربوية والإشارة إلى طبيعة تعليم تلك المادة وتعريف طريقة التدريس.
أما الفصل الثاني فقد تناول الطرق الرئيسة في تدريس مادة الجغرافية ذاكراً محاسن ومساوئ كل طريقة على حدة، أما الفصل الأخير، فقد تناول أهمية الوسائل التعليمية وأسس إختيارها وإستعمالها وأنواعها بالنسبة لتدريس مادة الجغرافية وكذلك تم التطرق في هذا الفصل إلى عملية تقويم تدريس مادة الجغرافية وذلك عن طريق دراسة أنواع الإختبارات.
