تجسد هذه الرواية قصة حياة الإمام شامل بن ذكاو، إمام المريدين في الشيشان وداغستان، وتتلمذه على الشيخ سعيد الهركاني، أكبر علماء عصره، ثم أخذه الطريقة الصوفية النقشبندية، التي كانت تحمل لواء العلم والجهاد في كل بلاد القوقاز، على يد الشيخ محمد أفندي اليراغي النقشبندي الذي أجازه، وجهاده ضد الروس طيلة 25 عاما ووقوعه أسيرا في قبضة القيصر اسكندر الثاني، إلى وفاته سنة 1871م في المدينة المنورة ودفنه بجوار قبة العباس رضي الله عنه عم رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم) بأسلوب روائي أخاذ وممتع.
