رضوان نايف السيد كاتب ومفكر لبناني، ولد في ترشيش، جبل لبنان سنة 1949م، وحصل على الإجازة العالية من كلية أصول الدين بجامعة الازهر سنة 1970م، حصل على شهادة الدكتوراه في الفلسفة من جامعة توبنغن بألمانيا سنة 1977م، وأستاذ للدراسات الإسلامية بالجامعة اللبنانية منذ سنة 1978م، ورئيس تحرير مجلة الاجتهاد الفصلية مع فضل شلق، منذ سنة 1988م، والتي توقفت مؤخراً.

له العديد من المؤلفات والترجمات، من أبرزها:
ومؤلفات آخرى عديدة، بالإضافة إلى ذلك فله مقالات سياسية وفكرية في صحيفتي الحياة والشرق الأوسط.
الجوائز
حصل رضوان السيد على جائزة الملك فيصل العالمية في مجال الدراسات الإسلامية سنة 1438هـ / 2017م، حيث تسلم الجائزة من الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز آل سعود.

يتضمن هذا الكتاب بحوثًا ودراسات في التاريخ الديني والثقافي للإسلام في حقبته الكلاسيكية. وهي دراسات تتناول المفاهيم التأسيسية للتجربة التاريخية للإسلام أو التقليد الإسلامي تكونًا وظهورًا فيما بين القرنين الأول والخامس للهجرة.
إن الحقل التاريخي الذي تدرس فيه مفاهيم رئيسة مثل الأمة والجماعة والدولة، والسنّة، والشريعة، والدين، والفقه، والكلام، يتم التعامل معه من خلال جدليَّات العلائق بين المفاهيم دونما إهمال للوقائع والأحداث التي تتجلى من خلالها «رؤية العالم» في الثقافة والحضارة والنظم: كيف تشتغل هذه المفاهيم فيما بينها، وفي محيط الأمة والعالم؟ وهكذا فإن هذه الدراسات هي دراسات فاهمة أو مفسّرة، وتعمل من ضمن التركيب والتداخل في عناصر المنظومة.
بيد أن الهم الرئيس في بحوث الفهم هذه انصب على ثلاثة أمور: علائق الجماعة بالدولة، وعلائق الدين بالدولة، وظهور أهل السنّة. وفي هذه المجالات الثلاثة يرى المؤلف أنه حقق كشوفًا مفيدة في فهم عناصر المنظومة وطرائق اشتغالها.
إن كتاب «الجماعة والمجتمع والدولة» هو الكتاب الثاني للمؤلف في مجال كلاسيكيات الإسلام بعد الكتاب الأول: الأمة والجماعة والسلطة.
