يطرح هذا الكتاب موضوع الإعلام وتأثيره في المجتمعات الكثير من الأسئلة التي طالما طرحها الباحثون والمفكرون منذ عقود، لناحية مدى تأثير الإعلام في قولبة المجتمعات وتصنيع الرأي العام وفي تغذية الاتجاهات والمواقف أو لجمها، وبالتالي في حفز عملية التغيير الاجتماعي والسياسي أو في إعاقتها. واليوم تزداد هذه الأسئلة تفرُّعاً وعمقاً، وبخاصة مع تجذّر دور الجيل الجديد من وسائل الإعلام وتقاناته، ومع تعدد أنماط ملكية المؤسسات الإعلامية ومصادر تمويلها ورسم سياساتها. يقدم الكتاب أعمال مؤتمر «الإعلام العربيّ ورهانات التغيير في ظلّ التحوّلات» الذي نظمته كلية الإعلام في الجامعة اللبنانية في أيار/مايو 2016، وشارك فيه نخبة من الباحثين والأكاديميين والإعلاميين العرب. تبحث أوراق الكتاب في أسئلة التغيير المطروحة على منظومة الإعلام في ضوء التحولات التقانية والسياسية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية التي يشهدها العالم عموماً والوطن العربي بوجه خاص، وبخاصة بعدما ارتبك الإعلام وتاه في خضم المعاني المعطاة لعمليات التغيير الذي وعدت به «الثورات العربية». يعالج الكتاب إشكالية العلاقة بين الإعلام والتغيير في ضوء متغيرين كبيرين؛ أحدهما عالمي يرتبط بسيادة جيل جديد من وسائل الإعلام والاتصال، وثانيهما عربي مرتبط بانتفاضات ما سمِّي «الربيع العربي»، التي تضافرت فيها حتى الآن مجموعة عوامل أسهمت في تعطيل دينامية أية عملية تغيير فعلية كانت مرشحة لتصيب بنى المجتمع والدولة في الوطن العربي.
