يشكل هذا البحث محاولة شاملة أولى لكتابة تاريخ الإمتيازات النفطية في إيران، في حقبة زاخرة بالأحداث ابتدأ من العام 1901 وانتهت في العام 1951. فقد أضحت إيران في النصف الأول من القرن العشرين، ساحة لتطورات مهمة تمثلت باكتشاف أهم مصادر الطاقة فيها عام 1908، وشكلت السنوات التي تلت ذلك، مرحلة ذات خصوصية وسمات منفردة، لما أظهرت هذه المادة من أهمية على الصعيد العالمي ولا سيما إثر اندلاع الحرب العالمية الأولى.
إن أهمية الكتابة عن النفط في إيران لا تكتسب حيويتها من كونها تهتم بأهم مادة للطاقة، بل لدور هذه المادة في صنع الأحداث على الصعيد الداخلي ورسم سياسة البلاد وعلاقاتها الخارجية مع الدول الأجنبية الكبرى. فضلاً عن ذلك نجد، أن دراسة التاريخ السياسي لامتيازات النفط في إيران يعد ضرورة لا غنى عنها لتلافي النقص الذي تعانيه دراساتنا في هذا المجال، لأن معظم الدراسات الأكاديمية، ركَزت على الجانب السياسي في إيران في حين أهملت موضوع النفط، دراسة مستقلة، الذي كان وراء أغلب الأحداث السياسية والتطورات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية التي شهدتها إيران.
ومن هذا المنطلق، جاء هذا الكتاب "التاريخ السياسي لامتيازات النفط في إيران 1901- 1951، ليكون إضافة للدراسات الأكاديمية المتخصصة بتاريخ إيران. حيث اقتضت طبيعة البحث تقسيمه إلى مقدمة وأربعة فصول وخاتمة.
الفصل الأول: "امتياز دراسي وتطوراته حتى قيام الحكم البهلوي 1901- 1925. الفصل الثاني: "تطورات قضية النفط خلال حكم رضا بهلوي 1926- 1941. الفصل الثالث: التنافس الأجنبي على نفط إيران في أواخر الحرب العالمية الثانية. الفصل الرابع: تصاعد المد الوطني والمطالبة بتأميم النفط 1945- 1951.
