ولد الكاتب المصري حسين عيد عام 1946م، بالقاهرة ـ حاصل على بكالوريوس العلوم التجارية (محاسبة) ـ له العديد من الكتب في الإبداع القصصي والرواية- له كتب متميزة في مجال الترجمة الأدبية ـ تخصص في النقد خلال العقدين الماضيين وله 13 كتابا نقديا، منها «غارسيا ماركيز وأفول الديكتاتورية» و«مفهوم السلطة والدين في تجربة فتحي غانم الإبداعية».. آخر ما نشر «سحر الإبداع: مع كتاب عرب وأجانب».

الموت.. ذلك الحقيقة الفزعة دائماً والمريحة أحياناً التى لم يستطع الإنسان الهروب منها.. أنشأ الحضارات وأدار الآلات وغنطلق إلى القضاء وهو يعلم يقيناً أن هناك لحظة لن يستطيع الإختباء منها.. نداء من ملاك الموت لن يستطع أن يصم آذانه عنه. عن الموت في آدب وقصص نجيب محفوظ قام المؤلف فى هذا الكتاب بدراسة وتحليل تناول نجيب محفوظ للموت.
ليتابع قصصة القصيرة ونرى كيف يتعامل مع هذا اللغز وكيف جسد رسول الموت فهيا.. أيضا نراه وقد إقتحم العالم الآخر وأرسل الإشارات في الاحلام وكأنها رسائل أيضا تكن الأسماء والأحداث فى قصصة محض صدفة وإنما كل منها يعنى شيئا يصب فى صلب الموضوع وهكذا يدرس المؤلف رحلة الموت منذ مجموعة" صوت من العالم الآخر" وصولاً إلى أحلام فترة النقاهة لنرى مدى تقبل نجيب محفوظ وإستيعابة للموت.
