ما المضمون الفكري الذي عملت على ترويجه كتب النقد الأدبي بالبلاد العربية منذ ما يناهز القرن من الزمان؟ ما الإضافة التي جاء بها مفهوم "الحِرْباء" عندما اصطنعه النقّاد والدارسون بدلاً من مفهوم "البيان" العتيق؟ إلى أي حدّ أمكن للمفهوم "الحِرْباوي" أن يعمّق معرفتنا بشعر التجديد في العصر العباسي وأن يجعل لـ "زيارة الأموات" معنى؟ وأي القِيَم اكتسب الخطاب النقدي من استعماله لهذا المفهوم؟...
تسعى هذه الدراسة إلى توفير الجواب عن هذه الأسئلة وعن غيرها مما هو قريب منها معتمدة كلام النقّاد على كلام طائفة من المبدعين القدامى.
وقد جاء الكتاب في خمسة فصول تناولت موضوع الدراسة وفق ما يلي:
