وحدهم الشعراء يرون ما وراء الأحزان التي تفاقمت فوق صدر الأوطان، ويحفرون قصائدهم بمشاعر خلاقة، لعلهم يُبلسمون الجراحات التي تفاقمت يوماً بعد يوم. في (دببه في مأتم) تجليات شعرية باذخة، كتبها شاعر متألق في رحاب المآدب والأفراح والسفر، وعبر غربة مفتوحة على رحاب الروح، روح شاعر اغترب عن أرضه، فلم يجد ملاذاً إلا الشعر، كي يفرغ تدفقات أنينه وشوقه إلى عراقة القديم، ولما آلت إليه كركبات هذا الزمن الأحمق.
إنه الشاعر الذي يرى: "أن زمننا معفَر بروث البقر وتكلس الفكر، وملوث بالجنوح نحو قشور الحياة، زمن ترك جمال الحياة وجمال الطبيعة (...) زمن مريض، مصاب بعقم مفنوح، زمن مهرول نحو ترهات الحياة، زمن ولا كل الأزمنة!".
يقول الشاعر صلاح فائق في القصيدة التي يختتم بها مجموعته هذه: "قصيدتي الأخيرة/ رسائل ممزقة في شرفة/ صرير باب لا أراه/ هوس التطلع إلى ستائر نوافذ/ قراءات عن أرواح في البراري/ معجزة الإستيقاظ من النوم/ منجمون يحتضرون أمامي/ يدي الضائعة في هذه الصفحة أو تلك: قصيدتي الأخيرة".
