حظي تفسير محمد الطاهر ابن عاشور "التحرير والتنوير" بمكانة رفيعة بين التفاسير، فقد جمع فيه العالم الجليل ابن عاشور الشريعة الإسلامية ومقاصدها، والفقه وأحكامه، واللغة ونحوها، والقراءة وتوجيهها، ولشعر بوصفه شاهداً على الإبداع والتحدي، كما جمع فيه الإعجاز العلمي والإعجاز البلاغي بالإضافة إلى علوم العربية وفي هذا الزخم المصرفي يجد القارئ ابن عاشور، دارساً وناقداً وفقيهاً وفيلسوفاً ومتكلماً وأدبياً ولغوياً، عارفاً بالأديان الأخرى، دارساً للكتب السماوية، مطلعاً على ما فيها من زيف وتحريف، وفي التفسير يجد القارئ الرد على أهل اللغة وأصحاب الموسوعات القديمة والحديثة، يستدرك مرة ويضيف أخرى، وينحني باللائحة على هذا العام، في هذا الموضوع، ويرفع من شأنه في الموضع الآخر، ويبدي تفرده في الموضع الثالث. وابن عاشور لم يكن عارضاً لآراء المفسرين والعلماء، فلم يكن عالة، بل أضاف إلى التفاسير التي سبقته ما لم يكن فيها، وكان محقاً في وصفه القائل "فيه ما في التفاسير وفيه ما ليس في التفاسير".
ولذلك فإن هذا التفسير يعد دائرة معارف أو موسوعة علمية متعددة التخصصات جمعت بين علوم شتى وفنون كثيرة. فالقيمة العلمية للتفسير بصفة خاصة، وقيمة البلاغة القرآنية المبثوثة فيه هما اللذان دفعا بالباحث إلى اختياره موضوعاً لهذه الدراسة التي قام فيها بدراسة المقاييس البلاغية التي اعتمدها ابن عاشور، في تفسيره، كدلائل على تثبيت فكرة الإقناع والتبليغ من جهة، وعكرة الإعجاز من جهة أخرى. وقد جعل دراسته تنصب حول مقاييس معينة، تم اختيارها على سبيل القصد، وذلك لما تميزت به، من عمق، يؤكد علوّ النظم القرآني ودقته، ويشهد على خصوبة وثراء النص القرآني على مستوى التراكيب وعلى مستوى الألفاظ ودلالتها التي تجد لها متنفساً أسلوبياً في النص القرآني لا تجده في غيره. وقد أثبتت دراسة الباحث الخاصة بالمقاييس التي اختارها هذه المميزات وغيرها، على امتداد صفحات الدراسة المقسمة إلى مقدمة وثلاثة أما الباب الأول فقد خصصه الباحث للحديث عن المفسر وتفسيره وتناول في الفصل الثاني علم المعاني مقاييس للبلاغة القرآنية في تفسير التحرير والتنوير.
