كتاب في النقد الادبي يمثل رؤية منهجية في شرح ثعلب على ديوان زهير وقد تناول مواضيع كثيرة حسب المستويات اللغوية التي تطرق اليها مثل الابدال الصوتي، الإحلال بين الصوائت، القلب المكاني، أشياء تخص الهمزة... إلخ.
وقد جاءت الدراسة معتمدةً على منهج ثعلب في هذا الشرح، فتمثّلت في المقدمة وتمهيدٍ وأربعة فصولٍ وخاتمة، أمَّا التمهيد، فقد تضمّن الحديث عن ثلاثة أمورٍ هي التعريف بالشارح، والتعريف بالدراسات السابقة وثيقة الصلة بموضوع البحث، والتعريف بالمادة موضوع البحث ومنهج ثعلب فيها.
أما الفصل الأربعة، فقد دار الفصل الأول منها حول المستوى الصوتي، وقد عرض فيه المؤلف للإبدال الصوتي، والإحلال بين الصوائت القصيرة، والقلب المكانيّ، وبعض الموضوعات المتصلة بالهمزة، والإظهار "فك التضعيف"، وإلتقاء الساكنين، وحذف التنوين، والأصوات وعلاقتها بالدلالة، وغير الصحيح صوتيّاً.
ودار الفصل الثاني حول المستوى الصرفيّ، فعرض فيه للموضوعات المتصلة بالصرف في الشرح، وذلك نحو الوزن الصرفيّ للكلمات في الشرح، والمشتقات، وأبنية الأفعال، والمقصور والممدود، والتصغير، والنَّسب، والتحويل في الصِّيغ الصرفية، ودار الفصل الثالث حول المستوى النَّحويّ، وعرض فيه للموضوعات المتصلة بالنحو في الشرح، نحو الفصائل النحوية "التذكير والتأنيث، والمفرد والمثنَّى والجمع، والضمائر.
أمَّا الفصل الأخير، فقد دار حول المستوى الدلاليّ، وتناول فيه الموضوعات المتصلة بعِلْم الدلالة، فجاء على قسمين، أولهما المعنى المعجميّ، والآخر للمعنى الدلالي؛ أما الخاتمة، فقد تضمنت أهم النتائج التي توصل إليها المؤلف.
