عالم الطفيليات عالم قائم بحد ذاته متعدد في تصنيفاته مختلف في طرق حياته وتكاثره وانتماءاته، ففي هذا العالم تجد وحيدات الخلية وعديداتها ذات أجسام وتناظرات جانبية وشعاعية بتراكيب معقدة ووسائل عيش وتأقلم عجيب. فالكائنات الطفيلية توجد في كل مكان وتتطفل على النبات والحيوان والإنسان، تشارك مضيفها غذائه وتسبب له الأضرار المتنوعة، وتضعف قدراته الذهنية والجسدية والإنتاجية.
ولما كان علم الطفيليات علم وصفي يعتريه الجمود والجفاف بعض الشيء، فقد جاءت هذه الدراسة لتبيان جوانبه المتعددة، وهي تتضمن فصولاً عدة تبحث في مفاهيم عامة، حول طرق عيش وتطفل الكائنات ذات العلاقة بهذا الموضوع، وهكذا تناولت الدراسة الطفيليات حسب مواقعها في التصنيف العام للمالك، مشيرة لموقع كل منها مع الاسم العلمي.
وتم ترتيب الطفيليات بطريقة تبدو أنها الأفضل بالنسبة للطالب، حيث تم التركيز على بيئة التطفل والعائل (المضيف) النهائي له ونوع الإصابة التي يحدثها فيه. في البداية تم الحديث عن وحيدات الخلايا الطفيلية: أنتي أميبيا هستوليتكا كمثل للأوليات، بعد ذلك تم التطرق لعديدات الخلايا بما فيها الديوان، من ثم تم التوقف عند بعض أنواع الفطريات التي قلما يجد لها الباحث أثراً في المراجع التقليدية.
وأخيراً تم تناول موضوع الخشرات والقوارض باعتبارها متطفلات من ناحية وناقلات للمسبب من ناحية أخرى وتأسيساً على كل ما تقدم تكون هذه الدراسة قد قطعت شوطاً نحو ما يعزز "الاعتقاد" بأن "علم الطفيليات" هو كتاب سوف يقدم خدمات إضافية، منهجية وعملية، لطلب كليات الطب البشري وطب الأسنان والعلوم والطب البيطري، وكذلك للعاملين في مختبرات التحليل الحيوي وفي المستشفيات وغيرها من قطاعات الصحة.
