يتوخى الإنسان من إرساء العلوم الجديدة ومناهج وطرق البحث زيادة قدرته على تفسير الظواهر الإجتماعية أو الطبيعية المحيطة به، ثم الإنطلاق من هذا التفسير إلى محاولة التنبؤ بما قد يحدث ثم التحكم في الظواهر والأحداث المتوقعة بقدر الإمكان.
ولا تقتصر محاولة الإستفادة من هذه الأساليب العلمية على العالم أو المفكر، وإنما تلتزم بها بالدرجة الأولى الأجهزة المتخصصة في الدول المتقدمة ممثلة في مجموعات البحوث في وزارات الخارجية والإقتصاد والدفاع والإعلام، وكذلك في أجهزة البحوث والرصد بالصحف الكبرى والأحزاب الجماهيرية.
ويجب التحذير سلفاً من مغبة المبالغة وسوء التقدير إذ أن جميع مناهج وطرق البحث دون إستثناء - ورغم أهميتها القصوى علمياً وحياتياً - ليست عصا سحرية وإنما تأتي في الواقع في المرتبة الثانية بالنسبة للقدرات العقلية الخلاقة للإنسان الذي تتوقف عليه أولاً وأخيراً إمكانيات نجاح البحث أو الكتابة السياسية.
معنى ذلك أن كل ما نهدف إليه من تدريب على تلك المناهج والطرق إنما ينحصر في ترتيب الذهن، وتعلم أساليب التفكير العلمي المنطقي، والتزود بالأدوات الضرورية التي قد تساعد على زيادة فرص التوفيق في طرح الأسئلة الملائمة للموضوع المطروح، والإختيار الرشيد بين المناهج والطرق المناسبة.
