يحتوي هذا الكتاب من سلسلة "كتب المجلس الدولي للأرشيف" على كافة المصطلحات الأرشيفية باللغة الإنجليزية والفرنسية والعربية بالإضافة إلى مرادفات في الهولندية والألمانية، والإيطالية والروسية والإسبانية. وهذه الطبعة من الكتاب هي الطبعة العربية الأولى، وقد سبق ظهورها صدور طبعتين لم تحتويان على النص العربي وقد نفذتا من الأسواق. وهذا ما يمكن أن يعتبر خير دليل على فائدة هذا الكتاب للمجتمع الأرشيفي الدولي وقيمته، فهو لم يعد أساسً إلا لتحقيق هذا الهدف.
كما أن كثرة الإشارة إلى هذا الكتاب في الأبحاث والدراسات المتخصصة سواءً باسمه الكامل، أو المختصر، (DAT)، لخير شاهد على فوائده في تحقيق الأهداف التي أعد من أجلها وعلى ضوء الخبرة الحاصلة في النصف الثاني من هذا العقد، والتطورات في مجالي الأرشيف والمعلومات، قام "غسان سنو" بإعادة إعداد هذه الطبعة مستفيداً من الطبعتين السابقتين وما نشر في مجالات الأرشيف والمعلومات والتوثيق. محتفظاً في هذه الطبعة بنفس الترتيب الألفبائي الإنجليزي للطبعتين السابقتين. وأضاف إليها النص العربي، مع كشاف ألفبائي بالاصطلاحات العربية المستعملة، والإحالات التي تهدف إلى توحيد المصطلح الأرشيفي العربي.
