إن القرآن الكريم هو كتاب الله تعالى، بالحق أنزله، وبالحق نزل، معجزة الإسلام الخالدة. ولهذا فقد عكف العلماء على دراسته وتفسيره ؛ حتى بلغوا شأواً عظيماً في فهمه واستخراج كنوزه، وبذلوا في سبيل ذلك الغالي والنفيس، وأفنوا أعمارهم في سبيل هذه الغاية العظيمة.
وهذا إبن قتيبة - أحد كبار العلماء المعروفين الذين سجّل التاريخ الإسلامي أسماءهم - قد جمع من كل علم قدراً كبيراً، جعله مرجعاً للدارسين والباحثين ممن جاءوا بعده، حتى قيل فيه: إنه خير من مثّل ثقافة القرن الثالث الهجري، بكل ما فيها من أطياف المعرفة.
فهو الإمام المفسّر؛ الذي حاز أهلية التفسير، وجمع أطرافه، وتقدم في علومه المختلفة؛ من لغة، وقراءات، وأسباب نزول ... فكان بحق مصدراً من مصادر التفسير لكل من جاء بعده.
بيد أنه مع مكانته هذه، ومعرفته في مختلف العلوم والمعارف؛ لم يحظَ بالعناية المطلوبة إلا من جانب واحد، وهو: الجانب الأدبي أو اللغوي. إلا أن جانب التفسير لم يتطرق إليه أحد كجانب مهم ومستقل من شخصية إبن قتيبة، ولهذا السبب جاءت هذه الدراسة كي تثبت أمراً لم يسبق أن بحث، وهو : ابراز ذلك الجانب من جوانب شخصيته، وكيف نصّب إبن قتيبة نفسه - في وقت كثرت فيه الملل والنحل - مدافعاً ومنافحاً عن القرآن الكريم أمام الطاعنين عليه؛ لندرك مدى جهوده في هذا الميدان، ومدى تأثره وتأثيره في غيره.
