ليس بوسع أحد أن ينكر حقيقة أن جمال عبد الناصر يشغل مكانة رفيعة في تاريخ العرب المعاصرِ، ويبين رواد حركة عدم الانحياز، وقادة أفريقيا الحديثة، والعالم الثالث عموماً في النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين، كما يعد، بحق، أحد أبرز قادة التيار القومي العروبي الوحدوي، التحرري بحكم واقعه، وأحد أقوى المنادين بالاشتراكية بين هؤلاء القادة، والأكثر شعبية بينهم طوال حياته. وعلى صفحات هذا الكتاب ترصد الدكتورة بثينة عبد الرحمن التكريتي، معالم الفكر الناصري وآثاره بدءاً بحياة عبد الناصر من حيث النشأة والأسرة والتعليم وبدايات التطور الفكري، ثم تستعرض المراحل الأساسية لتطور هذا الفكر بالممارسة التجريبية من نكبة فلسطين (1948) إلى ثورة يوليو (1952) وحتى النكسة في عام 1967.
وتلقي بعد ذلك الضوء على دور الناصرية في حفز حركات التحرر على صعيد الوطن العربي والعالم الثالث، حيث أصبح التمثل بهذا الفكر في مقارعة الظلم والإمبريالية والنضال من أجل التحرر قبلة العديد من حركات التحرر الوطني. ويبحث أيضاً في دور هذا الفكر كإحدى دعائم السلم العالمي في أشد أيام الحرب الباردة حرجاً، فقد كان العمل من أجل إبعاد شبح الحرب يأتي في طليعة أولويات حركة عدم الانحياز، والتي كان جمال عبد الناصر أحد أبرز أقطابها.
