يتضمن القسم الأول من هذا الكتاب فصلين، عدت في الأول منهما إلى تاريخ نشأة الوهابية في عقر دارها، متوقفاً عند (تحالف الدرعية) الذي تم بين الشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب والأمير محمد ابن سعود، والذي كان بداية اللقاء بين العقيدة والسيف، ومن ثم تطرقت إلى تاريخ التحركات (السعو-وهابية) نحو العراق، خصوصاً نحو المدن العراقية المقدسة بأرض الرافدين.
وفي القسم الثاني، الذي حاز مساحة واسعة في الكتاب، تناولت بأربعة فصول نشأة الخطاب الوهابي لدى عدد من المثقفين العراقيين، و نسق التمثيل النقدي لهذا الخطاب الذي دشنه عدد آخر من المثقفين العراقيين من نهاية القرن الثامن عشر حتى نهاية العقود الثلاثة الأولى من القرن العشرين، وبالتالي توقفت عند مسببات أفول الوهابية في العراق.
لا يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى نقد الأسس الفقهية التي قام عليها الخطاب الوهابي، فللآخرين، أيّاً كانوا، رأيهم في صناعة مسارات التفكير في العقائد وفي الحياة، إنما يهدف إلى استقراء علاقة سياسات التوهيب التي مارسها أهل الخطاب الوهابي بالعراق، وإلى استقراء أنساق التلقي العراقي النقدية لمفاصل هذا الخطاب. كما أن مشروعنا في هذا الكتاب لا يكرس إقصائية مذهبية أو فكرية أو تفسيرية ما بقدر ما يفتح الآفاق لإعادة كتابة تاريخ العراق الحديث في ضوء متغيرات جديدة حطّت ركابها على العراق بل والمنطقة مجدداً.
