يحتوى هذا الكتاب على أربعة دروس فى التحليل النفسى اللاكانى ويناقش التناقضات النظرية والتطبيقية للنظرية الكلاسيكية فى التحليل النفسى التى وضعها فرويد, ثم تفنيد لاكان لهذه التناقضت وحل المشكلات التى أثرت على حركة تطور التحليل النفسى بشكله الكلاسيكى ويقف مفسرا بزوغ الأب الرمزى وتاثيره على مفهوم علم الإجتماع معربا عن موضوعات فلسفية جد عميقة, تتعلق بأصل الرغبة والوعى الإنسانى.
ولا يكتفى بذلك بل يتطرق إلى فنيات التحليل النفسى وما تناولها من تعديلات على يد لاكان فى سياق شمولى (أى يشمل عدة تيارات فكرية) يجمع فيها بين التحليل النفسى والبنيوية والأنثروبولوجيا السوسيرية ونظريات علم الإجتماع والألسنية.
