وتختلف هذه الدراسة عن الدراسات التاريخية الأخرى في أنها دراسة ثنائية نقدية، تتابع التاريخ هنا وهناك وترصد الملامح المتغيرة مع فروق الزمن بين ما يتم في كل موقع من الموقعين الكبيرين لحضارة دالات الأنهار في الشرق الأوسط، أو بتعبير آخر الحضارتين الزراعيتين الكبيرتين وسط حمراء المنطقة المدارية في الشرق الأوسط وما يحيط بها من بحار وخلجان... ولهذا فهي ليست قاصرة على التاريخ الذي قد يعرفه الكثير من المختصين، لكنه يتناول الآثار القديمة من وجهة نظر فنية ونقدية.
فهو يعتبر التقدم والتطور في الشكل الفني دليل تقدم وتمدن وحضارة وبهذا النهج سجل ملاحظات هامة في ميدان تاريخ الفن المقارن، تضع أساساً مناسباً لعلم عربي في هذا المجال برؤية ناقد ينتمي غلى هذه المنطقة، تختلف رويته عمن سبقوه في وضع الأبحاث عن تاريخ هاتين الحضارتين الزراعيتين، ومعظمهم إما منتمون إلى الساحل الآخر من البحر الأبيض المتوسط، وإما متخصصون في التاريخ وليسوا متخصصين في فن النحت وأدواته وقيمه الجمالية ودوره الاجتماعي. والمؤلف يقدم هذه الدراسة لإيمانه أن مستقبل الفنون في العالم المعاصر لن يتوقف عن استلهام حضارات المناطق ذات التراث العميق الجذور كمصر وبلاد ما بين النهرين، ليس في مجال الفنون الجميلة وهو ها وإنما في فنون العصر الحاضر الجماعية الأداء أيضاً.
