بدأ علم الكواكب في بلاد ما بين النهرين (العراق حالياً) وكان في ذلك الوقت مرتبطاً بالفلك الذي نشأ بسبب رغبة الناس في إيجاد نظام للتوقيت ومنذ ذلك التاريخ كان لعلم الكواكب تأثير كبير على العرب ثم على اليونانيين.
ومع تطور أساليب الإتصال بين (الإغريق) والأجناس الأخرى بدأت الثقافة الإغريقية تنتشر وظهر المتخصصون في علم الكواكب في أماكن بعيدة مثل روما وعن (نيجيديوس فيجلوس) عرف الرومان طريقة دائرة البروج الإغريقية.
وقد اهتم المسيحيون واليهود بالسماء ولكن ليس عن طريق التنجيم والفلك وبالرغم من أن اليهود كانوا ملمين بدراسة الثقافة التي كانوا يعيشون بها والإهتمام الأول في كلتا الديانتين كان في الألهام واللاهوت.
الفلكي وأيامه السبعة المسماة بأسماء الشمس والقمر والكواكب وبه تم تحديد ميلاد المسيح مما يوحي بأن الإيمان بعلم.
في هذا المدخل يريد الكاتب أن يستعرض مقدمة موسوعة عن علم الفلك والشمس والكواكب والنجوم بقدر ما يريد أن يقوم مع القارئ العزيز بجولة على صفحات هذه الموسوعة بالمستوى الذي نتمناه من حيث أسلوب المادة وسلاستها ودقتها من أدق المعلومات الحديثة.
