استهدفت هذه الدراسة الميدانية التعرف على اتجاهات ومرئيات ومشاعر وآراء وخبرات، عينة من المجتمع الجامعي، طلاباً وباحثين، حول موضوع العنف المدرسي، ومقدار انتشاره في الوقت الراهن مقارنة بما كان عليه في الماضي، وتوقعاتهم لمعدلاته في المستقبل. وكذلك التعرف على أسبابه، والأضرار الناجمة عنه، واقتراحات مكافحته علمياً وتربوياً ونفسياً وإدارياً وأمنياً. وكذلك التعرف على نوعية المدارس التي يمارس فيها العنف وعما إذا كان الذكور يمارسونه أكثر من الإناث.
وكشفت هذه الدراسة عن أنماط العنف المدرسي أو مظاهره، وعن أضراره، وعن معاناة المشاركين فيه، وأنه يتخذ أشكالاً عدة، منها الإيذاء البدني والإهانات، وتدمير الممتلكات والأدوات، كما أن له أضرار جسيمة تتمثل في كراهية الطلاب للمدرسة، وفشل العملية التعليمية، وانتشار التسيب والفوضى وقلة الشعور بالأمن داخل المدرسة.
وضعت الدراسة عدداً من التوصيات التي يمكن تطبيقها للوقاية من العنف المدرسي، واقترحت آفاقاً جديدة لدراسات المقبلة أمام الباحث العربي.
