تكون الكتاب من جزءين، الأول يحكى فيه خفاجى عن بداياته الفنية، وتأسيسه لفرقة «ساعة لقلبك» الشهيرة مع يوسف عوف، ولطفى عبدالحميد، والتى ساهمت فى تخريج جيل كامل من الفنانين منهم «بيجو، أبولمعة، أمين الهنيدى، الدكتور شديد، نبيلة السيد، بليغ حمدى الذى كان يتولى مهمة الغناء فى الفرقة» وينتهى الجزء الأول من الكتاب مع نهاية تجربة فرق التليفزيون المسرحية عام ١٩٦٦، ليبدأ الجزء الثانى منه مؤرخا للفترة التى تلت ذلك وحتى تأسيس خفاجى لفرقة الفنانين المتحدين، التى ساهمت فى ظهور جيل كامل من الفنانين أمثال «عادل إمام، أحمد زكى، سعيد صالح، يونس شلبى» من خلال مسرحيات «حواء الساعة ١٢» عام ١٩٦٨، «سيدتى الجميلة» ١٩٦٩، «هالو شلبى» عام ١٩٦٩، و«مدرسة المشاغبين» عام ١٩٧٣، «أنا فين وانتى فين» عام ١٩٧٠، و«العيال كبرت» عام ١٩٧٩؛ «شاهد ماشفش حاجة» عام ١٩٧٦، «ريا وسكينة» عام ١٩٨٣، «شارع محمد على» عام ١٩٩١، و«بودى جارد» عام ١٩٩٩، وجميعها كانت من أكثر المسرحيات جماهيرية وشعبية فى المسرح المصري على مر عصوره.
