في التراث الأندلسي من الغزارة والصفاء ما جعل الدارسين يقبلون بشغف على الارتواء منه، فكثيرة الأبحاث في مختلف حقول المعرفة. وموضوع هذا الكتاب الذي يبحث في الفنون الأندلسية وأثرها في أوروبا الوسطى، موضوع شديد البروز، تناثرت أقسامه وأجزاؤه في بطون المصادر والمراجع العربية والأجنبية، وهو يعني العمل بالفنون كافة، من الأدب في شعره ونثره، إلى فن العمارة وزخارفها وإلى الموسيقى والرقص وسوى ذلك مما تفرد به القطر الأندلسي، وبعد دراسة خصائص العمارة الأوروبية والفنون الزخرفية في تلك الحقبة، يتعرض الباحث للأثر الأندلسي فيها، ومن ثم ينتقل إلى اهتمام الأوروبيين بعملية نقل التراث الفكري والفني من العربية إلى اللاتينية والإسبانية والإيطالية. وهذا ما أدّى إلى تطعيم الحضارة الأوروبية وانعكس على النتاج الفني فكان له دور رئيسي في انبعاث النهضة.
إن عمل الدكتور عيد في هذا الكتاب هو خوض في إحدى كبريات المسائل، وله فيه فضل الباحث العالم، فقد أنصف القدماء في عملية الأخذ من آرائهم فلم ينتقص من دلالة نصوصهم أو يحرفها، واحترم مواقف المحدثين ممن غاصوا بجوانب العمل، إلا عندما كان الشك المنهجي يفرض إعادة النظر فيما لا يتفق ومعطيات العلم.
هذه الدراسة فرض اكتمالها لجوء الباحث إلى مصادر ومراجع عربية وفرنسية وإسبانية وإنكليزية وألمانية، فخرجت غنية بأفكارها، سلسة بأسلوبها، جديدة بطرحها، والمسائل التي أجلت عنها الغموض جعلتها دعامة لأبحاث لامعة، وفيها يجد القارئ ما يشبع الفضول في هذه الفنون وفي أثرها.
