كتب "شريف يونس" عن الكتاب..على هذا ليوتار أن النظر إلى التاريخ باعتباره تقدماً مستمراً نحو الحرية وسعياً نحو التقدم لم تعد تلقى قبولاً الآن. فقد انتهت الفلسفات التي تصف حركة التاريخ على أنها تسير نحو سيادة طبقة من الطبقات سواء كانت البورجوازية أو البروليتاريا، أو إلى سيادة جنس من الأجناس أو قومية من القوميات. فقد حكم ليوتار كتب "شريف يونس" عن الكتاب..على هذا ليوتار أن النظر إلى التاريخ باعتباره تقدماً مستمراً نحو الحرية وسعياً نحو التقدم لم تعد تلقى قبولاً الآن. فقد انتهت الفلسفات التي تصف حركة التاريخ على أنها تسير نحو سيادة طبقة من الطبقات سواء كانت البورجوازية أو البروليتاريا، أو إلى سيادة جنس من الأجناس أو قومية من القوميات. فقد حكم ليوتار على كل النظريات العامة في التاريخ بأنها أيديولوجيات، إذ هي مجرد صورة زائفة لا تقابلها حقيقة واقعة. وما تسبغه هذه النظريات على التاريخ من اتصال واستمرار في خط واحد هو مجرد وهم، وهي لا تقوم بذلك إلا لتبرير الوضع القائم وإضفاء المشروعية عليه.
