يضُم هذا الكتاب المرجعيّ 25 دراسةً كتبها عمالقة دراسات الشرق الأوسط في الغرب، تُعالج تاريح بُلدان الشرق الأوسط الرئيسة؛ مصر والدولة العثمانية (تركيا) وإيران والعراق وسوريا وفلسطين، وذلك في القرنين الأخيرين من جميع وُجوهِه.
ينقسم الكتاب إلى 4 أجزاء رئيسة في مُجلَّديْن؛ ويتكون المجلد الأول من جزئين:
- الجزء الأول: طلائع الإصلاح وتغيُّر العلاقات مع أوروبا 1789-1918
- الجزء الثان يضُم هذا الكتاب المرجعيّ 25 دراسةً كتبها عمالقة دراسات الشرق الأوسط في الغرب، تُعالج تاريح بُلدان الشرق الأوسط الرئيسة؛ مصر والدولة العثمانية (تركيا) وإيران والعراق وسوريا وفلسطين، وذلك في القرنين الأخيرين من جميع وُجوهِه.
ينقسم الكتاب إلى 4 أجزاء رئيسة في مُجلَّديْن؛ ويتكون المجلد الأول من جزئين:
- الجزء الأول: طلائع الإصلاح وتغيُّر العلاقات مع أوروبا 1789-1918
- الجزء الثاني: التحولات في المجتمع والاقتصاد 1789-1918
ويضم المجلد الثاني الجزئين الثالث والرابع:
- الجزء الثالث: بناء الأيدولوجية القومية والسياسات حتى سنة 1950
- الجزء الرابع: منذ الحرب العالمية الثانية 1939-1993
وقد حَرَّر هذا الكتاب، عميد دراسات الشرق الأوسط "ألبرت حوراني" بالاشتراك مع "فيليب خوري" و "ماري ويلسون"، مستكتبين كبار باحثي دراسات الشرق الأوسط في الغرب، أمثال: أورييل هيد، روجر أوين، فيروز أحمد، آن لامبتون، دونالد كواترت، شارل عيساوي، كينيث كونو، جوديث تاكر، إيرفاند إبراهيميان، أندريه ريموند، شريف ماردين، جويل بينين، زخاري لوكمان، تيد سويدنبرغ، حنا بطاطو، رشيد الخالدي، نيكي كيدي، آفسانة نجم آبادي
ويتناول هؤلاء الباحثون في دراساتهم كل جوانب تاريخ الشرق الأوسط الحديث؛ السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية، وذلك من خلال أطُر نظرية مختلفة ترسم صورة دقيقة لتاريخ هذه المنطقة من العالم خلال القرنين الأخيرين، بما يجعله إضافةً ثريّة للمكتبة العربية، وكتاباً لا غنى عنه لكل دارسي الشرق الأوسط الحديث.
