وقد راعيتُ في اختياري ألا تكون هذه الأشياء من عصر واحد أو ثقافة واحدة، ففيها الشرقي والغربي، الجاهلي والإسلامي، الأوربي والأمريكي، فالقاسم المشترك بينها جميعًا أننا نتداولها في حياتنا اليومية.
وما تناولته في كتابي هذا لا يُغطي كل الأماكن والعادات والأشياء التي تمرُّ في حياتنا، فالموضوع أكبر من أن يقوم ببحثه كاتب بمفرده، لكنِّي أرجو أن يكون في الكتاب متعة للقُراء الذين يحبون المعرفة، وأن تُتاح لغيري فرصة أخرى لاستكمال بحث نفس هذا الموضوع بتفصيل أوسع وأشمل.
وفي نهاية هذا التقديم المتواضع أن أتقدَّمَ بالشكر المصحوب بالامتنان والتقدير لكل باحث ومؤرخ وكاتب رَصَدَ هذه المعلومات الحياتية بعينٍ فاحصةٍ لكي نستفيد منها جميعًا.
