يُعدَ التحرش الجنسي بالأطفال من أخطر المشكلات الإجتماعية المعاصرة، كونه سلوكاً تعافه النفس البشرية وتمتنع الفطرة السليمة عن الإقدام عليه، وهو سلوكٌ إجتماعيَ مخالفٌ لما تعارفت عليه الجماعات من قيم ومعايير. بالإضافة إلى أنه فعل محرم من قبل الشرائع السماوية كافة، وتجرّمه الفوانين الوضعية. وكذلك فهو يسبب سلوكاً يعكس إضطرابات وصراعات نفسية وإجتماعية، ترتفق الطفل الضحية طيلة مراحل حياته.
ولأهمية هذا الموضوع وتأثيره الكبير على المجتمع جاءت هذه الإشارة تتعلَق يكل مراحل الطفولة بدءاً من مرحلة الرضاع مروراً بمرحلة عدم التمييز، ثم التمييز، والقُصر، والحدث، فالمراهقة إلى مرحلة ما قبل بلوغه سن الرشد.
وعليه، فستحاول هذه الدراسة إلقاء الضوء على بعض الجوانب من هذه الظاهرة؛ وذلك بإستعراض مجموعة من مظاهر التحرش الجنسي بالأطفال التي حصلت في عديد من المجتمعات، في ضوء الدراسات والإحصاءات والتقارير الرسمية التي تناولت تلك المظاهر بما في ذلك بعض المجتمعات العربية والغربية. كما سيتم مناقشة الآثار الناجمة عن كل مظهر من تلك المظاهر، وما يحتمل أن تسببه من آثار جسدية، أو نفسية، أو إجتماعية، أو صحية على الطفل، مع تقديم بعض المقترحات لمعالجتها.
