ويعاين الكتاب الذي جاء في 532 صفحة من القطع الكبير، جوانب متعددة من الحياة الثقافية بمفهومها الشامل، ابتدأ من مكان تلقي العلم ووظائف العاملين في هذا المجال ومناهج التدريس والطلبة في المدارس.

ويعاين الكتاب الذي جاء في 532 صفحة من القطع الكبير، جوانب متعددة من الحياة الثقافية بمفهومها الشامل، ابتدأ من مكان تلقي العلم ووظائف العاملين في هذا المجال ومناهج التدريس والطلبة في المدارس.
كما يبحث الكتاب الذي اشتمل على مقدمتين وخمسة فصول وجداول وملاحق ومراجع، في اصحاب الوظائف الدينية والقلمية في القضاء والافتاء ونقابة الاشراف وادارة الاوقاف ونظاراتها وانتهاء بالعاملين في ديوان الولاية من الدفتردارية وارباب الاقلام والمحاسبات.
واشار الدكتور مبيضين في مقدمة الطبعة الثانية من الكتاب الى ان الدراسة التي تضمنها الكتاب تنتقل للبحث في نتاج تلك الفترة في فنون ومعارف متعددة من اجل النظر في معارف تلك الفترة من حيث المؤلفات الجديدة ودواعي التأليف واشكاله لتنتهي بدراسة علاقة اهل القلم مع محيطهم المحلي الاسلامي.
ويخلص المؤلف في مقدمته الى ان موضوع الكتاب يسلط الضوء على ان ما تضمنه الكتاب هو نتاج بحث في روافد الثقافة ورجالاتها من العلماء والادباء والمصنفين في وظائفهم واهتماماتهم المعرفية وعلاقاتهم الثقافية في تلك الحقبة الزمنية.
