يجمع هذا الكتاب بين طياته دراسة ونصوص شعرية دارت حول موضوع وحدة العرب في الشعر العربي، هدفها بيان "الوحدة" في الشعور لدى أبناء العربية، من أقدم العصور إلى اليوم. ووحدة الشعور هذه تفيد، إذ تناول شأنها في العمق، وحدةً في التطلعات والأشواق والآمال، بنسبة ما تعبر عن تلاقي الماضي بالحاضر، والحاضر بالمستقبل. عير أن ثمة حقيقة يضرب الناس عنها صفحاً، وهي أن الشعور العربي العام يجد في الحقبة الأخيرة من تاريخه، من يحاول أن يطمسه أو يشوهه، أو يمنع ظهوره، ولا يملك في بعض الحالات، أن يتغلب على جملة هذه العقبات، مما يحمله على اللواذ بالصمت.. ولو إلى حين.
وهناك واقع آخر، فمنها ما يطفو على السطح، ومنها ما يظل نائياً، بعيداً عن الأضواء. وهذا النائي عن الأضواء يختلف بين بيئة وبيئة، وعصر وعصر.
