إن خروج الفتاة إلى المدرسة في مجتمع كالمجتمع السعودي، أصعب من خروج الولد من المسجد، حيث كان يتلقى العلم، إلى المدرسة؛ وإذا كان يعود القلق والتوجّس من تعليم المرأة لعدة أسباب، فتعليمها يقتضي خروجها من البيت إلى المدرسة، ومن الحياة المغلقة إلى الانفتاح على معارف جديدة، ومن المعتاد إلى المثير، ومن طمانينة أحكام المجتمع والعائلة إلى المؤسسة، وهذا ما أثار الدعوات إلى رفض تعليمهن
إن خروج الفتاة إلى المدرسة في مجتمع كالمجتمع السعودي، أصعب من خروج الولد من المسجد، حيث كان يتلقى العلم، إلى المدرسة؛ وإذا كان تعليم الولد خارج المسجد أثار ما أثار من اعتراضات، فكيف بخروج البنت من بيتها، فالمرأة هي الأثنى، والأنوثة تعني الفتنة، والفتنة تعني الشرّ؛ والشرّ يختصر في سعيها إلى إمتلاك وسائله، أي خروجها من البيت وامتلاكها لأدوات معرفة يمكنها بواسطتها أن تتجاوز "عالمها" أي البيت والأسرة
إن هذا الكتاب محاولة لقراءة فتنة القول بتعليم المرأة، وهو حدث اشتعل كالفتنة بين الناس، فتنة قامت على عقائد واجتهادات لا يمكنها أن تنفي غيرها، وعصفت بمجتمع يخيفه كل جديد، وقد استندت إلى تفسيرات وعقائد وخرافات من كل حدب وصوب.
أردنا في هذا الكتاب تقديم إضاءة على هذا الحدث بقراءته وبتقديم وثائق لم يسبق أن اجتمعت حول هذا الحدث
