يثير كتاب التخييل التاريخي في الرواية العربية المعاصرة (تفكيك النسق وتمثيل الأسئلة المضمرة) للباحث سعيد الفلاق النقاش حول رواية التخييل التاريخي، وهو المصطلح الذي يُطلقه على الكتابات التخييلية التي تعيد تأليف التاريخ وتحبيكه سرديا، ذلك أن التخييل بصفته استراتيجية كتابية لا يتّجه إلى الواقع بالدرجة الأولى، وإنما إلى الماضي لاستعادة قصة معينة وإعادة تقديمها. لسنا - كما يقول يثير كتاب التخييل التاريخي في الرواية العربية المعاصرة (تفكيك النسق وتمثيل الأسئلة المضمرة) للباحث سعيد الفلاق النقاش حول رواية التخييل التاريخي، وهو المصطلح الذي يُطلقه على الكتابات التخييلية التي تعيد تأليف التاريخ وتحبيكه سرديا، ذلك أن التخييل بصفته استراتيجية كتابية لا يتّجه إلى الواقع بالدرجة الأولى، وإنما إلى الماضي لاستعادة قصة معينة وإعادة تقديمها. لسنا - كما يقول - أمام رواية تاريخية بمفهوم جورجي زيدان الذي يرى أن الرواية خدمٌ للتاريخ، وحيلة من الحيل لتبليغه إلى الناشئة، لكننا أمام رواية التخييل التاريخي التي تفسح المجال للخيال أكثر من أن تنظر إلى الوقائع أو الحقائق Facts، لأن مهمة التأريخ توكل إلى المؤرخ لا إلى الروائي، ومتى ما حاول الروائي التأريخ تجاوز فن الرواية، مثلما أن المؤرخ متى ما حاول الرواية، حصرا، تجاوز فن التاريخ.
وترجع قيمة هذا البحث، إضافة إلى أهمية الموضوع والأسئلة العميقة التي يطرحها، إلى البعد المنهجي للكتاب، وإلى الخلفية النظرية الصلبة التي يستند إليها ويحاول من خلالها مقاربة الخطاب الروائي التاريخي العربي وفق رؤية ثقافية منفتحة لا تكسر عنق النص ولا تخضعه لسرير "بروكست".
