طرح الكاتب الصحفى السعودى محمد آل مشوط فى روايته الجديد "سفينة الموت" ما جرى على متن السفينة المصرية الغارقة شهر محرم 1427هـ - فبراير 2007م المعروفة بعبارة السلام والتى راح ضحيتها 1070 نفساً ماتت غرقاً.
وأشار الكاتب فى الرواية إلى أنه طرح هذا الكتاب على الرغم من مرور 4 سنوات على الحادثة، وذلك لظهور خفايا وأسرار جديدة حول غرقها، وذلك بعد سقوط الحزب الوطنى الذى يعد مالك العبارة أحد أعضائه، كما أنه بدأت تظهر أسماء جديدة متورطة فى القضية من أبرزها جمال مبارك ابن الرئيس المصرى المخلوع محمد حسنى مبارك.
واستخدم آل مشوط الأسلوب القصصى الروائى والذى حاكى فيه كثيراً الرواية الأشهر فى غرق السفن "تايتنك"، وذلك فى أسلوب السرد القصصى الواقعى وتطرق الكاتب فى قصته لذكر تفاصيل عديدة منها ما حدث له قبل وقوع الحريق وأثناءه وبعد سقوطه فى الماء ليعيش القارئ معه، وكأنه أحد المرافقين مثلما كتب المؤلف فى الغلاف الخلفى للكتاب، كما ذكر آل مشوط في كتابه سر اتصاله بالرئيس المخلوع محمد حسنى بمبارك قبل غرق العبارة ومقابلته له بعد نجاته من الغرق، وما هو العرض الذى قدمه له قبل الكارثة.
اتسمت القصة بذكر التفاصيل الدقيقة للواقعية لتجعل من يقرأ القصة وكأنه يشاهد القصة على شاشة التلفاز، حيث ساعدت مهنة الكاتب الصحفية فى التقاط وذكر مواقف تجعل القارئ يغوص فى بحر الدموع أحياناً وفى أحيان أخرى ينتزع ابتسامة القارئ دون أن يشعر.
وتطرق أيضاً الكاتب إلى هرب القبطان من السفينة وهى تحترق وبعض الأدلة والمؤشرات التى توحى بأن ما حدث ليس من سبيل الصدفة، وذلك من تأخر الإنقاذ وعدم عودة القبطان إلى ضباء التى كانت قريبة نسبياً للسفينة أثناء الحريق.
