لقد حققت الحصن الخشبي وقت صدورها نجاحا باهرا، لتفوقها في أن تزاوج بين التقنيات السردية الحديثة و انشغالات جزء مهم من المجتمع الإسباني. إنها رواية تندرج ضمن ما يعرف في النقد الإسبان تنتمي رواية الحصن الخشبي إلى نوع الكتابة الأوروبية المسالمة، التي ازدهرت في فترة ما بين الحربين، وهي مجموعة من اللوحات يؤلف بينها البؤس و الحرمان والقمع، و تتحرك شخصياتها دفاعا عن قضية لا تعنيها.
لقد حققت الحصن الخشبي وقت صدورها نجاحا باهرا، لتفوقها في أن تزاوج بين التقنيات السردية الحديثة و انشغالات جزء مهم من المجتمع الإسباني. إنها رواية تندرج ضمن ما يعرف في النقد الإسباني بجيل الجمهورية الثانية. وقد اشتهر مؤلفها خوصي فرنانديث دياث(صلمنكة 1898_1941تولوز) بمزاولته للصحافة، قبل أن ينادى عليه إلى الجندية سنة 1921 عقب معركة أنوال، ليبعث إلى المغرب المستعمر آنئذ من قبل إسبانيا.
تدور معظم وقائع هذه الرواية شمالالمغرب، الرازح وقتئذ تحت الحماية، فالمغرب هو فضاؤها. وتتوسل الرواية بجماليت الكتابة الطليعية، لتعلن عن موقف يندد بالاستعمار و بالحرب العبثية التي يدفع البسطاء ثمنها دائما.
