حسن قنديل: ضابطٌ بالجيش المصري شارَكَ في الحملة العسكرية المصرية التي هاجمَتْ «دارفور» عام ١٩١٦م لقمع تمرُّد سلطانها «علي دينار» وتأديبه بعد أن امتنع عن دفع الجزية السنوية وانضم لأعداء الحلفاء (ألمانيا والنمسا وتركيا) ضدَّ إنجلترا وحُلفائها التي كانت مصر تتبع معسكرها بسبب وقوعها تحت سُلطة الاحتلال الإنجليزي وقتَها.
قام البكباشي حسن قنديل بتدوين مذكرات هذه الحملة في كتابه «فتح دارفور سنة ١٩١٦م ونبذة من تاريخ سلطانها علي دينار» وقدمه للأمير «عمر طوسون» الذي طبعه على نفقته الخاصة.

عندما كانَتِ الأراضِي السودانيةُ تَتْبعُ الدولةَ المصرية، رفَضَ سلطانُ «دارفور» المُسمَّى ﺑ «علي دينار» أنْ يَدْفعَ الجِزيةَ السنويةَ لمِصر، كما تحالَفَ معَ أعداءِ الحُلفاءِ (تركيا وألمانيا والنمسا) في الحربِ العالَميةِ الأولى ضدَّ إنجلترا وحُلفائِها التي كانَتِ المملكةُ المِصريةُ أحدَهُم. ولمَّا كانَتْ مِصرُ آنَذاكَ واقعةً تحتَ سُلطةِ الاحتلالِ البريطانيِّ وتَقتسِمُ معَ إ عندما كانَتِ الأراضِي السودانيةُ تَتْبعُ الدولةَ المصرية، رفَضَ سلطانُ «دارفور» المُسمَّى ﺑ «علي دينار» أنْ يَدْفعَ الجِزيةَ السنويةَ لمِصر، كما تحالَفَ معَ أعداءِ الحُلفاءِ (تركيا وألمانيا والنمسا) في الحربِ العالَميةِ الأولى ضدَّ إنجلترا وحُلفائِها التي كانَتِ المملكةُ المِصريةُ أحدَهُم. ولمَّا كانَتْ مِصرُ آنَذاكَ واقعةً تحتَ سُلطةِ الاحتلالِ البريطانيِّ وتَقتسِمُ معَ إنجلترا السِّيادةَ على السودان، فقَدْ جَرَّدتْ حملةً عسكريةً عامَ ١٩١٦م ضدَّ السلطانِ دينار، كانَ أغلبُها مِنَ الضباطِ والجنودِ المِصريين، بالإضافةِ إلى مُشارَكةٍ بريطانيةٍ بسيطة. ويَستعرِضُ هذا الكتابُ تفاصيلَ تلك الحملةِ وخطَّ سَيْرِها والمَعاركَ التي خاضَتْها ببسالة، كما
