وقد كانت غاية السفير من هذا الكتاب بجانب بث تجربته في - طلاوة وتشويق - إلى الجيل الجديد من الدبلوماسيين المصريين - السعي إلى تقديم عرض عم لواقع مصر طوال حقبة خدمته بوزارة الخارجية من خلال الفكر الرسمي للدولة ونظرة المسئولين إلى الأأحداث، وتلقي الناس في مصر والعالم الخارجي لهذا الفكر وهذه النظرة.
والسفير في كتابه لم يتحرج على مدى الكتاب كله من ذكر فضل زوجته عليه عندما كان يقرر في إعتداد وإعتاز بأنها كانت دائما المثل الأعلى لزوجة الدبلوماسي.
كان إهداء الكتاب إلى زوجته - رحمها الله - مثالاُ عاليا للحب والوفاء.
