هذه الرواية التي كتبها تولستوي العام ١٨٦٩، والتي تعدُّ قمة تطوره الأدبي، ويصفها البعض بإنها رواية تأمل التأريخ، يقدم لنا تولستوي من خلالها كيف يتعارض حب الحياة مع الحروب ومأسيها، تولستوي يخبرنا أنه كتاب الحرب والسّلم ليؤكد أنَّ: حادثاً احترب فيه ملايين ا يخبرنا تولستوي أن الحرب والسّلم ليس برواية، ولا هو بقصيدة، انما هو سجل أدبي حافل بالاثارة وقصص الحب ودروس التاريخ وعبره".
هذه الرواية التي كتبها تولستوي العام ١٨٦٩، والتي تعدُّ قمة تطوره الأدبي، ويصفها البعض بإنها رواية تأمل التأريخ، يقدم لنا تولستوي من خلالها كيف يتعارض حب الحياة مع الحروب ومأسيها، تولستوي يخبرنا أنه كتاب الحرب والسّلم ليؤكد أنَّ: حادثاً احترب فيه ملايين البشر، وقتل فيه نصف مليون من الرجال، لا يمكن أن تكون إرادة فرد واحد هي سببه، أنَّ رجلاً وحده لا يستطيع ان يجبر ٥٠٠ ألف شخص على ان يموتوا.
لم يكن ليف تولستوي "١٨٢٨ - ١٩١٠"، كاتباً فقط، بل كان مفكراً وفيلسوفاً وثورياً. كتب الرواية والقصة والمسرحية وتعمق في دراسة الفلسفة، وجعل لنفسه مذهباً فكرياً، حاول من خلاله أنَّ يجدَ إجابات للسؤال الذي أرقه دائماً هو: "لماذا نعيش ؟" وكانت كل أعماله هي محاولة للإجابة عن هذا السؤال.
وضمن مشروعها في طبع الأعمال الكاملة لتولستوي تصدر المدى الترجمة الكاملة والامينة لتحفة تولستوي الخالدة "الحرب والسلم" والتي قام بها المترجم القدير سامي الدروبي، لكن القدر لم يمهله لكي يكملها بعد ان انجز الجزأين الأول والثاني، ليكمل عمله المترجم القدير صياح الجهيم الذي يعد واحداً من أبرز المترجمين العرب، من الذين قدّموا تولستوي الى العربية بلغة صافية وانيقة وبترجمة تطابق النص الأصلي.
