تعمل الدكتورة مارلين نصر أستاذةً باحثةً ومساعدةً لمدير شؤون البحث العلمي في المركز العربي للأبحاث ودراسة السياسات في مكتب بيروت.
تتولى تقييم الأبحاث المقترحة للنشر كما تساهم في إعداد الندوات، والمؤتمرات العلمية، والتنسيق بين المركز والمؤسسات البحثية والجامعية في لبنان.
نشرت العديد من الكتب والدراسات في العلوم الاجتماعية، وتعدّ حاليًّا كتابًا عن منهجيات تحليل الخطاب للحكّام الجدد ومعارضيهم في دول عربية مختلفة.
كما تقوم بتحديث كتابها "الإسلام والديمقراطية في حقل التعليم في الأردن" وترجمته.
عملت مديرةً للدراسات في مركز دراسات الوحدة العربية (2011 - 2012)، ومديرة مركز التدريب الاجتماعي في وزارة الشؤون الاجتماعية اللبنانية (2000 - 2004).
درّست مواد علم اجتماع التربية والعمل والثقافة وتحليل الخطاب في الجامعة اللبنانية (1999-2010)، وفي معهد العلوم السياسة في جامعة القديس يوسف – بيروت (2006 - 2012).
وهي عضو مُؤسِّس في تجمّع "باحثات"، وتشغل منصب نائب رئيس الجمعية اللبنانية لعلم الاجتماع.

يركز هذا الكتاب على بدايات تكوّن الوعي العربي لدى عبد الناصر وانعكاساته على تجربته القومية من ناحية البيئة الاجتماعية والأحداث السياسية والتاريخية; شارحاً المفردات القومية في الخطاب الناصري وإصراره على استخدام مفهوم الأمة العربية ومسارَي تطور هذا المفهوم منذ عام 1952 ولغاية عام 1970، إضافة إلى الصلات الدينية والحداثية والثقافية في الفكر القومي الناصري.
