تعتبر مسرحية فاوست ليوهان غوته العمل الأبرز بتقدير معظم النقاد الأدبيين والأكثر كمالا المستوحى من قصة فاوست الساحر الألماني في القصة الشعبية. ولعل هذا العمل هو أحد أهم أسباب شهرة وانتشار هذا العمل حتى أنها تعتبر من قبل البعض العمل الأبرز في الأدب الألماني.
فاوست أو فاوستوس ( يعني باللغة اللاتينية ” الميمون ” أو ” المحظوظ” ) هو بطل أسطورة ألمانية تقليدية، مع أن فاوست كان واس تعتبر مسرحية فاوست ليوهان غوته العمل الأبرز بتقدير معظم النقاد الأدبيين والأكثر كمالا المستوحى من قصة فاوست الساحر الألماني في القصة الشعبية. ولعل هذا العمل هو أحد أهم أسباب شهرة وانتشار هذا العمل حتى أنها تعتبر من قبل البعض العمل الأبرز في الأدب الألماني.
فاوست أو فاوستوس ( يعني باللغة اللاتينية ” الميمون ” أو ” المحظوظ” ) هو بطل أسطورة ألمانية تقليدية، مع أن فاوست كان واسع العلم وناجح للغاية إلا أنه لم يكن راضياً عن ذلك فعقد صفقة مع الشيطان ومنح نفسه له مقابل أن يزوده بمعارف غير محدودة وملذات دنيوية. وكانت حكاية فاوست أساساً للعديد من الأعمال الأدبية والفنية والسينمائية والموسيقية.
وقد جرى تفسير معنى كلمة فاوست والصفة منها ” فاوستي ” على مر العصور بأشكال مختلفة لكن غالباً ما كانت تعني إجراء يسلم فيه الشخص الطموح نزاهتة الأخلاقية من أجل تحقيق النفوذ والنجاح على غرار المثل القائل : ” صفقة مع الشيطان”.
اقتبست مسرحيات من بينها مسرحيات للدمى إلى تلك الأسطورة ولقيت شعبية كبيرة في أرجاء ألمانيا وذلك في القرن الـ 16 وكانت أغلبها تقدم شخصية فاوست وميفيستوفيليس بشكل هزلي. ومن ثم انتشرت قصة الأسطورة في بريطانيا من خلال كريستوفر مارلو الذي طرحها بشكل كلاسيكي في مسرحيته : ” التاريخ المأساوي للدكتور فاوست” . وقد قام الشاعر غوته الألماني الشهير بإعادة صياغة القصة بعدها بـ 200 سنة حيث أصبح فاوست ذلك الشخص المفكر المستاء الذي لا يرضى والذي يتوق لشهوات الدنيا بلحومها وشرابه
