لأول مرة في تاريخ الفن المعاصر لا متنا العربية يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى جمع جهود الفاعلين من الفنانين التشكيليين رواداً وشباباً، محترفين وهواة. أجرى اللقاء مباشرة مع الأحياء منهم وتقصّ وبحث وتابع تجارب الرواد الذين غادروا الحياة تاركين على وجه الحركة المعاصرة ومؤثرين في عمق التجربة الراهنة للفن التشكيلي. وقد سُعي في تبويبه أن يكون شكلاً موحداً... لأن طبيعة البحث تسعة إلى وحدة المكونات الأساسية في الفن التشكيلي... مكونات الوحدة والبحث عن الهوية القومية في المحتوى وعن الهوية الإنسانية في اختيار الأشكال للتفاعل مع طبيعة الحضارة (التكنوذرية) الراهنة...
من هنا كان البحث في التطلعات الأساسية التي رافقت حقائق الإنسان العربي الحضارية منذ القرن الأول للهجرة في التاريخ العربي الإسلامي إذ أم أكثرها ازدهاراً تلك الفترة الواقعة بين بواكير القرن الثاني للهجرة= أوائل العصر الأموي، وبين أواخر القرن الثالث الهجري= مطالع العصر العباسى للوقوف على القيمة الإبداعية في الفكر العربي الإسلامي وفي جوهر الذات العربية... وبلورة المواقف المتميزة في منطلقاتها المحدودة بحكم التوليدات التي نجمت عن خصوصيات كل قطر ضد خصوصيات الثقافة الاستعمارية الغازية لا بد من الوقوف على النتائج في عملية الصراع هذه.
وإن جميع حملات الغزو الاستعمارية اللامة العربية تضمنت أسباباً تاريخية ارتبطت بفكرة الصراع الحضاري بين الشرق القديم: الحضارة المصرية القديمة، حضارة وادي الرافدين، حضارة الصين، والهند واليابان والحضارة العربية الإسلامية وبين حضارة (الغرب) وهي في أوج ازدهارها بعد عصر النهضة في القرنين الخامس عشر والسادس عشر للميلاد.
