هذه رحلة على جانب كبير من الإثارة للصيادين، وعشاق الصيد كما هي مثيرة لقراء أدب الرحلة، فهي أولاً وأخيراً، رحلة صيد، ورحالتنا صياد جاب الآفاق في الربع الأول من القرن العشرين بحثاً عن طرائده، ورحلته هذه ليست الأولى، ولم تكن الأخيرة. وهذا الأمير الذي ينتمي إلى بيت محمد علي باشا الكبير لم يكتف بالسياحة والصيد، فهو جغرافي معروف له مساهمات شتى في بناء مكتبة جغرافية عربية. وهو فضلاً عما رسمه من صور وما دوّن من معلومات عن الحيوانات والوحوش التي يصطادها، نراه يتمتع بلغة سلسة في وصفه مشاهد الصيد والقنص، وبدقة بالغة، حتى أنه كان يصف كيف تخترق الطلقة جسم الطريدة وتمزّق أحشاءها، فيتداعى إلى ذاكرتنا هوميروس ووصفه لمصارع أبطاله في إلياذته الخالدة، وهو ما يجعل قارئه يشاركه لحظات التوتر، ومشاعر الظفر، أو الخيبة في جريه وراء طريدته، كما يصف الأقاليم والجبال والممرات، والمضائق والأنهار، والآثار من معابد بوذية وهندوسية ومقابر ومشاهد إسلامية، وأسواق يمر بها لمحاً، كما يصف أشكال البشر، ولباسهم وعاداتهم، وطقوس احتفالاتهم، والكثير مما يرغب القارئ في معرفته عن تلك الأقاليم النائية.
