اعتاد الأمريكيون أن ينظروا إلى أعمال هيتشكوك من زوايا سطحية، كمادة للتسلية، ويسمونه هيتش، بينما كان رواد الموجة الفرنسية الجديدة يسمونه المسيو هيتشكوك، ويعتبرونه معلماً فذاًً ورائداً عبقرياً، وهم الذين اكتشفوه واحتفلوا به وأصدرو عنه الدراسات المميزة ، ومن قبله اكتشف الفرنسيون ويليام فوكنر قبل أن يفهمه الأمريكيون ، وقبل أن يفوز بجائزة نوبل للأدب.
