أرسل تاجر ابنه ليتعلم سر السعادة عند رجل حكيم.. مشى الصبي أربعين يوماً في الصحراء قبل أن يصل إلى مدخل قصر رائع على قمة جبل.
وبدلاً من أن يلقى رجلاً قديساً دخل إلى قاعة تنشط فيه الحركة والرجل الحكيم يتحدث مع أناس كثيرون، فاضطر الشاب إلى الانتظار ساعتين قبل أن يحين دوره بالكلام.
أصغى الرجل الحكيم بانتباه إلى الشاب وهو يشرح سبب الزيرة، ولكنه قاله له إنه لا وقت لديه الآن ليطلعه على سر السعادة. واقترح عليه بالقيام بجولة في القصر.. ولكن بمعلقة صغيرة سكب فيها نقطتين من الزيت وطلب منه أن لا يدع الزيت يسقط منها.
بدأ الشاب يصعد وينزل كل سلالم القصر وعيناه مركزتان على المعلقة. وعاد بعد ساعتين إلى حضرة الحكيم.
سأله الحكيم عن القصر واللوح الجدارية والنافورة والنجوم المنقوشة ولكنه ارتبك واعترف بأنه لم ير شيئاً أبداً، لأن همه كان ألا تقع نقطتا الزيت من المعلقة.
هنا النصيحة التي يجب أن أعطيك إياها:
إن سرّ السعادة هو أن تنظر إلى كل روائع الدنيا دون أن تنسى أبداً نقطتي الزيت في المعلقة.
