ووصف الجراح هذه النصوص بانها نصوص مسافرين "لم يهمل جلهم اعمال الفكر في أسباب تقدم الغرب من دون اغفال أهمية المقارنة بين عناصر الاختلاف القائمة بين الشرق والغرب وعليه فان كتاباتهم عن ألمانيا تمثل تطلعات نخبة أملت بكثير من الرومانسية في أن تستلهم حداثة الغرب وتحذو حذوه في انتهاج سبيل العصرنة للانتقال بمجتمعاتهم من حال التخلف واللحاق بركب المدينة الحديثة.
